VIGBC re-certifications take place on an annual basis. As of January 1st 2020, organizations who have achieved Green Status for three consecutive years have the opportunity to shift to a bi-yearly renewal process. The certification will take place on the even numbered years (ex. 2022, 2024) as usual. On the odd numbered years members will not need to pay the annual fee or go through the site visit process but, will still receive an updated score and marketing materials for that year. During the non-site visit year we will look to set up a quick phone call to check in, but overall we will keep things simple. The bi-yearly site visits are scheduled to take place on the even numbered years to coincide with when the checklists are updated and revised.

These Green Leader organizations will still have the opportunity to go through the certification process on odd numbered year if desired. Reasoning could be for new upgrades, changes to the building or operations, new location or looking to improve score. Businesses who do opt in for the certification on odd number years will be charged the regular annual collective fee.

If a business does not achieve green during the certification year, they will be moved back into the annual renewal process. We hope this helps encourage our Green Leaders to continue to develop their sustainability initiatives and for new members the Green Leader Status is something to work towards!
